Your Global Passport to a Career in Finance: The ACCA Qualification.
A Comprehensive Guide by Mercury Edutech Academy, Nagercoil.
Welcome, aspiring finance professional!

At Mercury Edutech Academy, we are proud to connect Nagercoil with the world's best professional qualifications. While you may be familiar with Indian courses like CA, CMA, and CS, the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification is your passport to a truly global career.
If you dream of working in multinational corporations, handling international finance, and having a qualification that is respected in over 180 countries, then ACCA is the right choice for you.

What is ACCA?

ACCA is a global professional accounting body based in the United Kingdom. It offers the "Chartered Certified Accountant" qualification, which is one of the most respected and fastest-growing accounting qualifications in the world.

Think of it as a global CA. It covers all key areas:

  • Financial Accounting (IFRS)
  • Management Accounting
  • Taxation (UK/International)
  • Audit and Assurance
  • Financial Management & Strategy

Because it's based on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), which most large companies in India and around the world use, ACCA members are in high demand everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Here are some common questions about our company and services.

  A. The ACCA BASICS

ACCA stands for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a global professional accounting body based in the UK .

No, ACCA is a professional qualification, which is often considered equivalent to a Master's degree in many countries. However, it allows you to earn a BSc (Hons) degree while you study .

Neither is "better"; they are different. CA (India) is the top qualification for statutory audit and Indian taxation. ACCA is the top qualification for a global career in finance, management, and IFRS .

Yes! ACCA is highly valued in India, especially by Multinational Corporations (MNCs), the Big 4 audit firms (Deloitte, KPMG, EY, PwC), and KPO/BPO companies like Accenture and Infosys .

Both are top global qualifications. ACCA is more widely recognized globally (180+ countries) and based on IFRS. CPA is primarily for the United States and based on US GAAP .

There are a total of 13 papers (3 Knowledge, 6 Skills, 4 Professional) .

It's flexible. On average, students take 2-3 years. If you have exemptions from a B.Com degree, you can finish it even faster .

No. This is a major advantage. You can appear for one paper at a time, at your own pace. You can take up to 4 papers in one quarterly exam session .

Yes, this is the most recommended path! You can start in your first or second year of college and get exemptions as you complete your B.Com, saving a lot of time  .

You need to be comfortable with business math (like percentages, ratios), but you do not need advanced, complex mathematics .

  B. Eligibility & Registration

You can start after your 10+2. You need a minimum of 65% in English and Maths/Accounts, and 50% in your other subjects .

You can start directly at the Applied Skills level. B.Com graduates are often eligible for exemptions from the first 4 (or more) papers .

Yes, CA Intermediate (IPCC) qualified students can get up to 6 exemptions (all 3 Knowledge papers + Tax, Audit, and Financial Reporting) .

ACCA offers a "fast-track" route for CAs. You get exemptions from 9 papers and only need to pass the 4 Strategic Professional papers to become an ACCA member .

Registration is done online on the official ACCA Global website. You need to upload your educational documents and ID proof .

MyACCA is your personal student portal on the ACCA website. You use it to register for exams, pay fees, claim exemptions, and track your progress .

This is a coaching institute (like Mercury Edutech Academy) that is officially recognized by ACCA for meeting high standards of teaching and student support .

The fees are paid in British Pounds (£) to ACCA. It includes an initial registration fee, an annual subscription fee, exam fees for each paper, and exemption fees (if any) .

While the fees are in pounds, the "paper-by-paper" model means you can spread the cost over time. The high salary and global opportunities offer a great return on investment .

You can register online at any time of the year .

  C. EXAMS AND SYLLABUS

  1. Applied Knowledge (3 papers)
  2. Applied Skills (6 papers)
  3. Strategic Professional (4 papers)
  • Applied Knowledge (BT, MA, FA): These are "on-demand" computer-based exams (CBEs). You can book and take them at any time.
  • Applied Skills & Strategic Professional: These are held four times a year, in March, June, September, and December.

The passing mark for all papers is 50%.

You must choose any two from:

  • Advanced Financial Management (AFM)
  • Advanced Performance Management (APM)
  • Advanced Taxation (ATX)
  • Advanced Audit and Assurance (AAA).

Yes, if you are granted an exemption from a paper, you must pay an exemption fee to ACCA. This fee is still less than the exam fee .

This is a mandatory online module that tests your professional and ethical judgment. You must complete it to become an ACCA member (ideally before your Strategic papers) .

You simply re-book the exam for the next session. You don't have to re-take any papers you've already passed .

No, there is no negative marking in any ACCA exam .

You have 7 years to complete the Strategic Professional papers after you pass your first paper at that level. There is no time limit for the first 9 papers .

"Session CBEs" are the computer-based exams for the Applied Skills and Strategic Professional levels, held during the four quarterly exam sessions .

  D. DUAL DEGREES AND OPPORTUNITIES

This is a unique partnership. After passing the 9 Applied Knowledge & Skills papers and the Ethics module, you can submit a Research and Analysis Project (RAP) to OBU to earn a BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting .

Yes, it's a full UK honours degree from a highly-respected university. It gives you an academic degree in addition to your professional qualification .

It is a research project on a company of your choice, which you complete under the guidance of a registered mentor .

No, it is completely optional, but highly recommended  .

Yes, this is a critical update. The current OBU BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting program is concluding. Students must pass all Applied Skills exams by May 2026 and submit their project by May 2026 to be eligible. ACCA is working on a new partnership, but this specific one is ending .

After you become an ACCA member (or even as an affiliate), you can get exemptions and fast-track your way to an MSc in Professional Accountancy from the University of London .

  E. PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE(PER)

PER stands for Practical Experience Requirement. It is a mandatory 36-month (3-year) period of relevant work experience .

Yes, you must complete the 3Es (Exams, Ethics, Experience) to become a full ACCA member .

This is the best part: you can do it before, during, or after your exams. Any job in a relevant accounting or finance role (even in Nagercoil) can count .

Yes, absolutely! The 3 years of CA articleship can be used to fulfill the 36-month PER requirement .

You need to record your experience online and have it signed off by a supervisor (who does not need to be an ACCA member). You also need to achieve 9 "Performance Objectives".

  F. CAREER AND SCOPE IN INDIA

You can work in:

  • The Big 4 (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) in roles like Assurance, Risk Advisory, and IFRS advisory.
  • MNCs (like Shell, HSBC, Amazon) in roles like Financial Analyst, Management Accountant, and Internal Auditor.
  • Shared Services / KPOs (like Accenture, Capgemini) in IFRS reporting and financial planning .

You cannot sign statutory audits or tax returns in India (only a CA can). However, you can start your own consultancy firm for IFRS, financial advisory, and management consulting  .

You become an ACCA Affiliate when you have passed all 13 exams but have not yet completed the 36-month PER. You can still get excellent jobs as an affiliate  .

A fresh ACCA affiliate or member can expect a starting salary ranging from ₹6 lakhs to ₹12 lakhs per annum in a good MNC, which is significantly higher than a traditional graduate .

Absolutely. It is your direct link to a global career. With remote work and the presence of MNCs in nearby cities like Chennai and Bangalore, your ACCA qualification makes you a top-tier candidate.
